I have a high pressure sodium light on my garage that turns off at times,it will also go out when I turn on the compressor but it comes right back on. Would it be cheaper to replace it or could there be a problem with fluctuation of power into the house or a problem with the light. Jeff
Probably just the bulb needs replacing. When they get "weak", they require a bit more voltage from the ballast to keep the lamp lit, and any fluctuations or "dips" will cause it to go out, until it cools a little, then it will re-light. Second problem could be the ballast; then it become s question of whether it would be cheaper to replace the ballast, or just get a whole new light.

Still have not fixed it but need to do so soon since I miss having the front of the garage lighted up,I am going to try a bulb first and go from there.
My yard light, which I get to rent from the electric company for $12/month, goes on and off when it gets windy....I am not what sort of light it is, has an orange tint to it.
My high pressure sodium light puts off a orange tint so yours must be the same,I think most other lights put out a white tint. Its probably a loose wire since it cuts off when windy.
Put a new bulb in about a half hour ago and so far it has not cut off so I hope thats all it is,of all the lights I had I never had a bulb act this way as they just went out.
I should of put a new bulb in a couple years ago when it first started acting up,I thought the bulb would just go out like all others and its been on for a couple hours with no problems.
