Roofin' this weekend

Well fellas, I'm goin' to be puttin a tin roof on the house this weekend. It's pretty steep, so I've got a lift rented to cut down on chances of falling.

I've done a few tin roofs on sheds, but never a house, expierience will be my teacher this time.

If you guys have any tips, they would be greatly appreciated.confuse

Don't plan on walking on it after.....lol

Seriously........What are your plans for strapping it etc?.....Is the cost more or less than a shingle roof?.....Are they large panels or small?...I am seeing both up here......The metal roofs are gaining popularity up here.

I haven't done a whole bunch of steel roofing but I know that it's important to use the proper fasteners. Whether you go with nails or screws ya gotta use the proper ones and ya gotta watch that ya don't over-tighten 'em. There's a happy medium and more is not better. disbelief Are you in a snow-zone? I forget confuse But, anyway, if ya are ya may wanna use something to break up the snow and ice as it gets closer to the edge. I mean, usually with a steel roof the snow and ice slides off pretty good so I've seen "spike" type of things used (as part of the roof) so that full sheets of the stuff don't come flyin' off and hurt somebody or bust up yer car. Know what I mean? hmm

By the way, my next roof will be a steel roof! biggrin I think it's the way to go. Good luck with this project! handshake.gif

I also prefer steel roofs over composition shingles especially since we get them danged ol hurricanes in here sometimes - - - just be careful if you try and stand on it because they can send you to "ground zero" before you know it.shocked.gif

LIke CO said the fastening is very important - - - might be the time to invest in a good cordless drill that has the tension adjuster on it.

Also be sure you "flash" any valley type areas real good - - aka don't spare the flashing biggrin

Good Luck and Be Careful thumbsup.gif
