Before PawPaw got a Computer

Back in the early 90's I had gotten hurt shoeing horses and decided to take early retirement (Mr. Mom) and enjoy my Grandkids which were coming along about that time.

Well, I did not have a computer or a Hot Rod then and my first born Grandaughter was the "light of my life" so I started making stuff outa wood for her and then later my other Grandsons.

Please excuse this shameless self-indulgence no

Here is the project that I was the most proud of and it was definitely a "Labor of Love" - - it was made entirely out of 2" lumber except for the ears and the light colored side of his face.  The mane, eyes, tail and eye-lashes were picked up at Michaels or Hobby Lobby.  The only help that I had with this was my friend the antique funiture maker that had a big nice band-saw to help cut the big stuff - - everything else I did with my J-j-j-j-j-j-jIG Saw - biggrin   When her Mom divorced my Son, I took the Rocking Donkey and I have it stored upstairs incase she ever wants it for her kids or to display in her Vet Clinic, that is, if she manages to become a Vet.

This was a Plexiglass case that I made for Harlee's Ballerina Doll.  The top was removable.

I had some leftover pieces of lumber and decided one day to design and build a Mickey Mouse Bank and this was done with various thicknesses of boards to give the 3D effect and also allow a place to route a groove for the coins to drop in from the top of his head.

Can't remember the name of the magazine that you could order these cool plans out of but here is a "folding" rocking chair from one of those plans.  Oh, and yes her nickname was "PeePie".

I made this transition bed for her when she moved from the baby-bed - - it even had slipin side rails.  I can't remember how the headboard got so scratched but I'm sure there was a reason - - LOL  Obviously "toll-painting" was not my forte'!

And last but not least is the Rocking Horse that I made for my youngest Grandson.  I had a friend that was an artist to paint the facial features for me.  Most of this was outa scrap lumber also.

Thanks for looking !

clap.gif Right on Mello!! Right-the-Hell on! aww Every piece is fantastic worship.gif  I like the first one, the rockin' donkey, the most. It's original and the natural wood stain that does it I think. You are one talented Texan for sure buddy. toocool.gif  When I was a young feller both my brother and I had foldin' rockers like the one you made. Only differences were that ours had arms and had a clear coat only. Both of my sons sat their lil' cans in mine and it's tucked away for their kids. wink

Do ya still find the time to putter around with woodworkin'? Sandy loves each piece as well and tells me that stuff sells for ridiculous amounts at Farmers' Markets, Craft Sales and places like that. With all of your talent man you could move closer to yer kin and pay the extra from yer works. I love to play with that stuff too and if I ever get able to go downstairs to my shop or if I get a new address with everything on one level I'm gonna kill some time that way. Here I am...a "ramblin' man" again. disbelief

Once I get done changing three doors at my in-laws (family that you marry into can be pretty needy at times--but I love it all the same!), I'm barricading myself back to my wood shop.  That stuff is just awesome!  And at the same time makes me wonder if I'll EVER get that good (good isn't the right word to use here, but it's the best I can come up with at the moment...).

In a while, Chet.

Thanks Y'all - - - my 3 grandkids have pretty much outgrown my "Craftyness".

I need "motivation" in order to be creative so, except for the occasional window cornace or home maintenance, my Woodie Days are over.  (LMAO @ Poncho's "morning wood")

The first born (best day of my life) grandaughter will graduate from HS a year early, the middle Grandson is already playing JH football and the youngest doesn't like anything that isn't connected to a computer program in some way.

Those were definitely "my good old days" and I have many memories to reflect back on.  I was kinda worried that I didn't have them saved in digital format but I found them by accident while looking for someting entirely different. confuse
