Dgas Dump

Bought ten years ago as a fixer for 18K cash. I am officially the worst looking place on my street. The work IS progressing tho it is SLOOOOOOOW w my health getting in the way most of the time. But I have made progress in 10 years , new wiring, plumbing, dining room ,kitchen and appliances, bathroom - It had NONE, just a crapper in the middle of the basement floor and NO tub or shower ! (:o) 2 roofs (had a BIG hole when I bought the place and a storm took off the first new roof and a complete new roof w peak over the back kitchen area, it was flat and in poor shape), 3 new windows,2 new stom doors and an inner security door, locks, a rear deck which will be replaced this summer w a bigger one, rear yard fenced in w a sun gazebo in back , 2 yard sheds -one is going away this summer as its crap,Modern rollup Garage door, new concrete driveway pad and front side walk.trees plants etc. fenced storage area behind the garage. All done by me on a shoe string (and my brother + freinds help on the high stuff like roofs, I can no longer climb ladders) .No loans, cash as  I go. True, I could get it done in one summer IF I got a loan . With the current loan /banking trends. I think NOT. I own the place outright and owe not a dime.  These pics are after the new roof #1 and new storm door. but the houses outside condition is obvious. New siding has been started now and new porch windows are planned for this summer as soon as a car I have is sold .

Sounds interesting dgas.....Sounds like you have done a pile of work...........That's the way to do it, debt free.......I didn't become debt free until I sold and retired and bought this place.........Can you show us some pics?

Pics are coming I have to download the newer ones , same deal w me when they told me I had only a short time to work any longer and should retire. I sold most of the toys and excess stuff + bought this place for cash. I kept my retirement CD funds (dumped most of the money from the old place into that), antiques, tools, 4x4 truck, boat, car trailer and a couple old cars, the rest went.

Here are some in progress pics ,theres a ton more but it would take a LOT of sight space, I have enough material now to finish off both ends of the house + garage w trim also for the rear deck rebuild (bigger 16'x16', but still need five 3 season porch combination windows for the front.

A little backround. The place was built in 1908 (100 YO now, ;D) as a one main room w 2 room loft home by a widow + her two sons. One was killed in WWII. The other severely wounded (shot in the head) early in the war. He collected a pension and painted houses the rest of his life, He inherited the place when she passed and lived a bachelor until he dided in a nursing hone in the late 90's , the place sat empty for several years while his nephew who inherited it worked on the place a bit to make it more sellable. Which they had a hard time doing until I came along w a CASH offer. To date I have nearly 27K into it including house cost, all new furniture, appliances and fixtures and it is taxed at 57K, They tell me that will nearly double when the siding andwindows are done , we'll see, I bet the value rise slows long b4 that point although typical houses in my neighborhood w the same age and in the same build style, but updated go in $114K area and sell ;D

looks like your place is really coming along. Plus you don't have a mortgage payment.
