Thanks, I was fortunate enuff to meet him in '56 when he came thru our little Texas town.  I was already a huge fan and always will be a fan.  The Wiff calls that wall "The Shrine" - - biggrin

You met him? WOW! That's huge. I've been a fan my entire life, I was brought up on The King. I was 9 when he died and still remember the day. I used to own tractor trailer car carriers and the first time I got to Memphis I stopped traffic in front of Graceland. Pulled the brakes on and jumped out right there in the middle of EP Blvd! biggrin Tonight my boy (16) was askin' me about songs as he loaded some Elvis into his Ipod. I'm not the sort of guy to get "star-struck" but Elvis is an exception. I've even got a bunch of books and stuff...long live The King!! biggrin

the white matted pic on the shelf right above the creeper is a copy of one that the Cafe took of him that same day I met him - - - I was fortunate enuff to know the waiteress that had the picture and just managed to get a copy a couple of months ago.

We were there in Oct of last year and went by Sun Studios also - - - even tho Memphis has been ruined, you can still feel the "Musical History" in those scared spots.

Looks like you've got a nice chunk of property there.

Your garage ceiling looks like it's finished in corrigated metal, I like it!

Way too much yard to mow, HOWEVER, total privacy's - - - worth it !

yeah, that tin went up easier than I figured and really helped light up the place

I'm in the same situation with the "too much to mow" , but I do enjoy my space. We're selling soon and still haven't agreed on where we're going from here. Less house and more shop are the only agreed upon points. We're definately building the next one too...no more renovating for me and I have some features in my plan that will not be comprimised.

Memphis and EP Blvd specifcally were "rougher" than I expected. I was a bit shocked but, yeah, once ya start to take in the atmosphere and the history the rest kind of fades away. I purposely took a couple of days off there (I was usually a drop and run kinda guy) because there was a festival on Beale St. I'll never forget it and plan to go back some day.

Good Luck with your relocation.  We are going to have to do the same thing within a couple of years for many reasons.  Everytime I mention a one bedroom, one bath with a HUGE garage and shop, I get a dirty look - LOL

Beale St. kinda disappointed me, also, because of all the "curio shops" with the made in you-know-where on the back of everything.  We did, however, find Neely's Interstate Bar-B-Q and that was another hi-light of the trip.  Tried "The Pig" on Beale St. and was also disappointed - - - nothing but ambience there.

I'm rambling and hi-jacking my own thread - - - oh well.

Here is a pic I thought you might enjoy.  This was taken the day that I met Elvis right before I got there.  He was eating breakfast at the "Little Shamrock Cafe" in Cleveland, Texas (1956) and a lady called me at school and told me.  I broke and ran to the 50 Ford and away I flew across town (whoopie) and managed to catch him and his body guards right before they pulled out.  Like I said yesterday, I was fortunate enuff to get a copy Feb of this year.

1956??....Boy, you must be an old fart, Mello.......LOL.......I was only 4 in 56, and I feel like an old fart at time.

About the houses, we went from a 2 bedroom in town, to this 4 bedroom in the country, with about an acre to mow.........I ended up with about the same size shop however, which was a must. Thing is, near Toronto, we sold that little 2 bedroom on a 60x100 ft lot and got this on 1 1/2 acres, for about 1/2 the money..........Kind of like the "Green Acres" story to me..........."Goodbye City life"

That must be so different on every level for you folks, Ponch. The "Big Smoke" (Toronto) is insanely busy. It's amazing, the difference is housing costs. Have you ever seen that TV ad for the lottery? It shows how different areas in Canada would spend the money and the Toronto couple gets a penthouse apartment and has a "garden"...on the balcony. It's one of those funny 'cause it's true things.

I like that corrogated metal ceiling in Mello's shop too. Think I'll do that....in the next one.

You are right, TO is insane...hate having to drive there......... I wasn't in Toronto...was in Georgetown, about 40 miles from TO, but the housing prices are right up there, as was the traffic was getting bad too. I grew up there and the town where I am close to now, is just like Georgetown was 35-40 years ago.....with a few exceptions...Wallmart, Big CTC, etc....but still a small town. It even still has a drive in theatre........So, its not really a real big change..........

I used to pick up and deliver cars to Georgetown...fairly certain it was a Chevrolet dealership. It seemed like a nice town. Another town that was pretty regular for deliveries was Ingersoll...a dealership called Mid Town Motors. A small place like that and they, at that time, were the largest exporter of vehicles in Canada.

Nice place! I hear ya about to much grass to mow. I use my horses as lawn mowers as much as possible. Since you've got a fence and I don't see loads of shrubs or flowers in your photos how about a couple of goats? They run 24/7 but you would have to teach them to stay off your cars. smile

Murray Motors...He just recently sold and retired. Yes, Georgetown was a nice town, lived there my whole life. Getting busy down there now.

Good idea, however, it would require a lot of new fencing to pasture goats or even livestock - - - we may be selling soon so hopefully I can find a new place with nothing but driveway.

Yeah, I'll bet Poncho, the city will eventually stretch from Windsor to Cornwall I'm sure. It's been 5 - 6 years since I was to Georgetown probably. We considered moving to Campbellford at one point. It's a nice little town too.

Hey, BR (549-lol), if you like good Bar-B-Que Ribs and you're in Memphis - - - you might want to check out Interstate Bar-B-Q (Neely's Best wet or dry) - - - - better than anything on Beale Street, IMHO.

Here's their Website:

I also love to cook and do all the cooking around the house. Not because the Wiff can't cook but because I'd rather do it. Funny, huh?

A recipe site would be cool in a very Manly way, of course - - - LOL I have some simple ones like "Indian Fry Bread" and "Corn Dodgers" that I would share plus a potatoe soup recipe that is outlawed in 49 states - - LOL - - J/K

Still helping the son hang the sheetrock and boy am I getting old.

Later, y'all, have a great Sunday,

Mello

I got in late on this thread .

I love the garage Mello . "can't be a bad place it's got Elvis on the wall" was a quote a good friend of mine said when we tried out new out of the way restraunts. I always like your car ,but now I envy your garage too.

I went to Graceland in '96 ,did the whole tour . spent all day there . Loved it .   way down in South Texas is a town of Los Fresnos , real close to Padre Island . there is a whole house dedicated to Elvis . you can look it up on the web. So if you're rolling around down yonder you can look it up.  the local used car lot there is owned by a hotrodder . I toured his garage at his house . took pictures of his rides.

Freddy was born real close to Los Fresnos and Harlingen in a town that starts with a "B" I think . they are all real close together. his picture is painted on the watertower just off of the highway.

If you're looking for something to do in August . Vernon has a real big Cruise . It's an all week affair that peaks Saturday night and ends Sunday afternoon after the big car show at Roy Orbison Park. around the 8th 9th 10th
