Cool! For me, the slow and careful part is always just figuring out the layout so I don't end up with partial tiles in an obvious place. smile

Yeah, that is the big challenge. For that particular job in the pic I posted, the room...no the entire building...is soooo outta square that it was very difficult. Also, the smaller room intensifies that challenge. So, some of our "tiles" aren't exactly as we would normally get, but the are the best we could do with what we had to work with. Our client is happy and we have been asked to do more on the property this year. Imperfections are frustrating for me, but sometimes they just cannot be avoided. I always explain the situation to my clients and leave the decision to go ahead up to them when stuff like that arises. What else can ya do?

That is a pretty close match.. I used 12x12 tile , and since it was such a small B/R i wanted do a design in the floor to maybe make the room look bigger. lots of cutting for sure.. the 6x6's started out as 12x12's
I snuck in a new tile saw on the building account,, cause I have a whole lot more tile to do before this shack is done,, besides I'm a tool nut,, and don't like borrowing tools,, I just end up loaning them out to the neighborsbiggrin

We are going to do the scribed and stained concrete on the rest of the patio,
How do you get such a variation in color between tiles
[scribed lines] mask off each section ????idea

One way is to draw your lines out with soapstone or even a marker on your base color stained surface...then do your extra staining where appropriate. After that's done cut your pattern, so even if you used the marker...it's gone with the cut.

If you plan on using reactive stain again, use sponge brushes for your extra colors. Since the concrete has already been "active" it won't take as long for a full reaction with the 2nd color. Oh yeah...almost forgot...neutralize with the ammonia solution after each application and scrub away residue.

That's probably the easiest way to get the specific colors where ya want 'em. Hope it helps some.
