Chain saw gas mix ratio...

....I've gotten two chain saws given to me, and neither one has the ratio of gas to oil anywhere on them.  Do they run on the same gas mix as a weedeater?

Depends how old they are......the newer stuff goes up to 50-1.......while old 2 strokes called for 20-1.

I use about 40-1 in all my 2 stroke stuff.........better to smoke a bit, rather than burn it up.

What kind are they?

One is a Homelite 245 (with a 16" bar) and the other is a Jonsered Automatic (12" bar).  Looks like that one has an all aluminum case, which is kinda odd to me.  Even dad's CS8000 Echo (what a beast that thing is....) has some plastic on it.   Maybe I just grew up in the "plastic age"....

Fortunately my Weed Eater brand trimmer (4 yrs old) and Sthil Chainsaw (25+ yrs old) both run on 40:1, however, I have had tillers and trimmers that used 24:1 and 16:1 in the past and outboards are a completely different story no

Poncho's theory on the matter is a good'un thumbsup.gif
