Hazardous materials

Not to hijack the tree house thread,, I figured a new thread would be better,, got my thinkin cap on today,,, for a first,,

First off,, Welcome to the handy man show,, great place Poncho has developed here, lots of kiddin around and a little bit of serious stuff too. so welcome to our world away from stress, headbang.gif

I read in the paper that in the S.E eastern states, they are now having a problem with sheet rock imported from China, during the housing boom, and now it is emitting hazardous fumes which is making people sick,, caused by the fumes emitted from the coal derived stuff they made the stuff out of,, over 100.000 homes have this stff in them and are not safe to occupy,, of course they have to take a few years to study what the problem,, while people are homeless, and still paying the morgage,

what a wonderful world we live in huh???

I don't get it either Poncho confuseIt just doesn't make sense. How can it be cheaper? The only way that I can figure is that there's a whole bunch of "considerations", "incentives" and "write offs" involved that boil down to a whole buncha double talk and paper shufflin' in the name of global trade. I doubt that anybody completely understands how or why it works that way. hmm Us little people aren't supposed to even look at the big picture anyway. We ask annoying questions and whine about losing our jobs in the name of this global trade. evileye

I actually hadn't heard about this sheet rock issue. I guess that the standards are also waived in the manner. In the meantime folks can get sick and become homeless while the powers that be get to the bottom of it. disbelief This stuff frustrates the crap outta me. Sometimes I think that those Amish that live detached from the rest of us are way ahead. hmm

WOW, the Wiffy mentioned something about this the other day and I wasn't paying any attention (well I was actually ignoring her because she heard it on one of those 24 Media Channels thumbsdown.gif)

That being said, how in the $&%#$& would a person go about finding out if his home had that drywall in it - - - especially if he wasn't there during the construction? frustrated.gif

I'm sure they will find out which contractors used it,, the blame has to go somewhere, other than going back on the manufacturers, just like everything else that has come from china,
buy a house and make payments ,just  to find out it is going to kill you,, become homeless, and still have to make the payments, sounds like good goverment consummer goods protection,,

A article i read also talked about appliances from over seas that was not lasting very long. the owners was losing
every thing in there home. I read one article where there gov. was paying the factories to keep there people working. even if they had to sell there product below cost to get rid of it. I guess the gov. figures that is cheaper than having them on welfare. later paul
