When a Window is not a Window

If you will notice the larger window in this picture, you will see that there is raw plywood behind the glass.  BTW, this was taken last year before I pressure washed the vinyl siding and also before re-routing the plumbing vents.

I decided to take out the glass and see if I could slip in a curtain or blinds or something to cover the plywood and in the process, I broke both panes and found out that there was ZERO space between the glass and the plywood so I opted to just paint the plywood and replace the broken window panes.

Altho it does look a little better, I'm thinking about maybe getting some louvered shutters and putting them over the entire window just to cover up the fact that "THE WINDOW IS NOT A WINDOW"

What do Y'all think about the shutter idea and do you have any other suggestions for improving the appearance of this "fiasco" that the previous owners created??

I have exactly the same situation,, except I can't blame the previous ownerbiggrin

When I remodeled a bathroom last summer, The big shower stall my wiff wanted was too big to put where the old corner shower was, so the only way to make it work was to put it along a wall that had a octogon shaped window,  [actually not a window , but a feature of the old bathroom ] so I cut a piece of plywood to fill iit in just as they did,[ notice I said THEY and not YOUbiggrin] I fully intended to paint the ply wood, but didn't disbelief but it has a wooden trim around it that I can take off and replace the wood with a stained glass window like I had planned to do just ain't done it yet, probably never will, biggrin

I don't know what could be done about your problem,, is the wood covering something on the back side? shutters would be a great idea,, but then you would have to put shutters on the rest of the windows, to be consistant,,

OR!!!  you could hire a artist to paint a mural of a woman and a man taking a shower or a kid throwing a hissy fit or a couple fighting, or just a simple old ugly dude staring out the window,, so it would look real,, or leave it alone and don't look at it anymore,, and it will go away,, maybeno

Directly behind that plywood is sheetrock, texture and a large mirror.  At first I took the mirror down in the bathroom, thinking that I could put a curtain in the window and be done but there was no window, just a sheetrocked and painted walll no

Of course you could take the window out and stick in a couple of 2x4s and replace the siding, but that would be kinda spendy, on the curtain deal,, why does the curtain have to go in the back of the window,, like they were actually in the room,, why not just hang some in the opening of the window,,  just in the back side of the window opening, or to the backside of the plywood  or what ever is covering the window

I have 2 of those in my house....one is behind the shower stall and the other is behind the kitchen cabinets....If I ever re-side the house (doubtful), I will remove them.
