Flourecent light intermitant

I have several old single straight tube fluorescent tube lights in my kitchen drop ceiling. Two of the fixture keep going out. They will come back on in a couple minutes to sometime a couple days. Replacing the bulbs did not help.
Any ideas?

The ballast is likely giving out.......probably cheaper to replace the whole unit.

BTW...welcome to the forum

Sounds like its definitely a ballast problem. Most ballasts that I replace are almost the same price as the unit. Depends on how nice of a unit it is though.

My advice is to just replace the whole mess.  New T8 or T5 units are better, and less costly than repairing the old ones, and you can upgrade to two lamp units at the same time for better lighting.  Avoid T12 or eight foot long F72 or F96 tubes; they are old tech, still available, but not as good as the newer stuff, even in industrial strength.

We also do industrial supplies at our NAPA outlet, so I deliver a lot of this stuff.......The government here has a big push on now to get rid of old bulbs and ballasts (PCBs)
