Being cheap has its advantages!

The house I live in is Historical. One of the oldest in the county. I have done a complete restoration and have tried to stay accurate without breaking the bank!
This includes some floor repair. What I have done is saw my own hardwood, air dry it for over a year, run it through the planer, tongue and groove it, and put it down. Only did that where the opening have been changed or the floor was missing. The rest I resurfaced and allowed the original scars and wear to show. The wife loves it.

On the new house I am building at my hill farm I am using ash plank. There is a problem with the Ash Bore Beetle so I am sawing some of the really nice big ash I have on my properties. I have developed my own design. On the edges I use a half dovetail and a shoulder cut. Counter bore for pegs to hold it down. The dovetail pulls the boards together tight, and the shoulder cut holds a spline made of cherry. No gaps and a stunning contrast between the two species of wood! Pictures to follow after I take some.
