We were supposed to get about an inch last night - got 5-6 inches of soggy snow which will probably be gone in a day or so. Other then that, not bad here on the normally frozen tundra of Upstate NY

Down near Toronto (100 miles)...they got whacked...Well, whacked for them is 2 inches...They got about 4, I think.....Here, we got a bit of freezing rain, nothing more.......Getting a few flurries right now, but dont think it will amount to much....Famous last words

Dave, looks like you're just on the south-eastern side of all that lake effect that part of the state gets? Poncho EVERYONE in Toronto is whacked. Geezer..........that's just not right. We had freezing rain, rain, snow pellets, big soggy snow blobs, more freezing rain and now it's just light flurries. Think I wanna head south.

I mowed part of the weeds yestidee also, however, day before yestidee Amarillo had a record breaking snow storm. They had 19 " of snow and winds gusts up to 75 mph. Now I don't know how many of you are familiar with that ?City? but the only thing between it and any place else in the world is a 3 strand barbed wire fence.

I've heard it said that if Texas ever needs an enema they will insert the tube in Amarillo. Either there or Laredo would suit me just fine.

Oh, I think he'd notice, Geeze, fer sure as soon as summer started to show.

As to the original question:  Yeah, we have had a mess of it, here.  Highs in the low fifties to high sixties, lows in the mid to low thirties, breezy, with occasional wind spurts, a few clouds now and then but mostly sunny bluebirdy skies, and at night, the moon - just beautiful.  It got right enough a couple of times in the past few weeks to start the weeds to growing, and my Roundup sprayer has gotten a good workout already.  Soon enought, though, we'll have our week or two of Spring, and then Summer will set in, and we'll start wishing for Fall and Winter again.  I do feel for all of you folks in the snow belt; we lived in the Sierras just above the average snow line for ten years, and left because it got too hard to deal with, as busted up as we were getting.  Could'a been worse, though, we could have lived in Truckee, just on the east side of the divide; they get REAL snow, there.

Well, we're finally getting some much needed rain but we could have done without the hail. Wasn't too bad tho - - - about the size of moth balls (the male kind) and didn't last but 5 or 10 minutes. Hmmmmmm, I guess this means the grass will grow faster now, huh? Still better than the wildfires of 2 years ago.

We were supposed to get some rain, but the weather map shows it going around us for the next few hours. Need a good one to wash the salt and sand off the roads (and of course onto my nice clean truck and the DW;s shiny clean car). After that, possibly a few showers, but not much except some snow flurries possibly tomorrow. No big deal - an inside and fuss with the '31 day anyhowsmile

The only ugly we have here is the wind, and that is only an off and on thing; temps are nice, mostly sunny most of the time of late. Supposed to be a bit of a disturbance coming, but that's what they have been saying for a couple of weeks, now; it always seems to slip on by to the north of us.

Well, today was just about the worst day of the winter...It has been brutal this year. Not so much about bad weather as suddenly changing weather. So far this year, I have had to be towed out 3 times due to ice storms. this is in the NAPA van I drive. Today, I finished off the old Ford van. Was coming back after my last delivery, over the crest of a slight hill, doing about 35mph.....There was a cube van in the ditch ahead, so I eased up to go around. A big gust of wind came up as I went by and blew my van right into the side of his. Of course, the road was shear ice of the crest of the hill. I ended up in the ditch in front of him. I went back to see if he was OK and he had hit his head when I hit his van. Bleeding a bit, but he was OK....Called 911 etc. He said he had just been blown into the ditch and had unbuckled to read his cell phone which had gone flying. Then I hit him and knocked him for a bit of a loop. Luckily, he hadnt decided to get out of the door or I would have creamed him.
Took 2 hrs for the cops to get there and all the BS done.......My boss is not impressed, but there was nothing I could do. So much for spring being here....we always seem to get one last kick from winter, and it kicked the sh!t out of me....lol
I am just typing this to make myself feel a bit better....been bummed about it all afternoon.

Poncho - sounds like you had a bad day that got worse as it went on.

We had about an inch of snow when I got up, most melted with some sun on it, but heavy flurries all day between those peeks of sun. It never got over 34 with 35-40 mph winds. The forecast for tomorrow - more of the same. There is a light up ahead as it's supposed to be in the 60's by Sunday (with rain). Maybe!!

As I look out this early morn, the snow lies sparking upon the grassy plain of my yard

How's that for BS - and it's c-o-l-d.

Where's Algore and his climate change when we need him.
OH!! He lied, it's really getting colder (and that is now a proven fact)

That sucks Poncho. Your boss can write down the cost of another vehicle. That area gets a lot of streamers off the Lake, instant white-outs and such if I remember right. Lucky our Administrator wasn't seriously injured, lol.

Rough shake Poncho, glad ya' weren't banged up too much - truck can be replaced; hope they don't get ugly about it.  I had a wreck in a company truck one time, and even though the cops said there was no fault, my employer wound up taking it in the back pocket big time.  The folks I hit sued them, and sued them some more - I worked for one of the biggest power companies in the world, so the deep pockets thing was in play.  Our company's insurance rep called my boss one time to ask me some questions about the incident, and I asked about the outcome; he told me to never ask anyone about that or say anything about it ever again - scared me so's I didn't.

Getting another van next week or so...2012 Ford from what I am told.....Boss said mine was due to be replaced (2006) next year anyways, so its not that big a deal I guess...Insurance helps pay for the new one, just a bit early.

Had freezing rain over the night.....Got up this morning, didnt seem bad. Took the dog out and noticed a couple of fair sized branches down in the yard. Went into work and the power is out in Hanover......Guess its worse than I thought. Apparently a few towns in my area have no power.

Sounds like you just helped the replacement van decision along by a few months

We missed the freezing stuff by a degree but not too far North - that fugly white stuff 'happened'

Update - I just went out for a couple hours. #$%^ COLD at 33-34 degrees and it started sleeting. Hunkered down now, cuppa joe, a good book, a warm ..... nah, that's way too much information

Looks like summer is finally on the horizon here in the wilderness of Upstate New Yawk. Been in the 70s to mid 80s with decent evenings. One problem is the lack of rain so everything is starting to dry out too much for good spring growing. Since May 8th is the normal last frost day, I procrastinated taking the snow blower and chains off the tractor until about an hour ago. Sounds about right to meconfuse

Yesterday at a political function my wife asked the town highway super if they could sometime this spring dump a load of dirt on the town owned cul de sac island in front of the house for me to spread in the holes where the kids had dug some holes (foxholes, if ya'll recall your own childhood). This morning about 8:00 am a 3 man crew showed up with a big load of very nice top soil, a tractor and did it all for me, leaving about 10 minutes ago. I'll have to fertilize and plant some grass seed unless the DW can sweet talk the parks dept for some, but that's cheap vs their 5 hours of labor. Now, if I could only convince the town that my front lawn needs some of their TLC ......................... nawwwww. That's pushing the envelope a bit too farevileyebiggrin

OMG - a guy came back a just spread grass seed

Well, Dave, if Murphy and Meller's law still holds true then you should not have taken the chains off BUT, if you want it to rain, then wash your Truck/Car/Hot Rod and then it will probably do both.

Em - that usually is the way it's been, but I washed and polished my truck over a week ago and it still hasn't rained. Probably the storm clouds are waiting for the hot rod to make its yearly appearance - which has been delayed by my fiddlin' around with a few things on it along with some home improvement projects.

Just wait, Dave, this mess that has been taking it's good sweet time wandering past us may just come and get ya'.  We have had clouds and wind, and sometimes, some rain for over five days, now.  Temps were down in the sixties and below on Sunday and Monday, and have also remained so until this afternoon; feels like about 80 right now, the weather prognosticators are calling for 100 by Sunday, and on into next week, then cooling to the nineties.  Summer is just around the corner.

Yep, you are probably right. I just watched the local weather - early spring and April showers are supposed to return over the weekend.

Rrumbler - you can keep those way high temps but that rain, we do need it as the yard isn't much now

You keep that crud up there in the North woods. It is chilly here - 54 at 0600, now 51 @1150 with possible frost overnight predicted for the next two. Methinks my earlier 'gloat' was premature plus I had to dig a flannel shirt out to wear today. And we STILL need more rain then the few sprinkles we've had.

Global warming/climate change - bull pucky!!!!!
