Cedar Deck..stain..waterproof.. Sikkens cetal...??

I was not sure where to put this so Harry can park it where it should be if it's in the wrong drawer..Since I have parked my rod for the summer and been doing some work on the house .. tired of all the infighting and bull**** on the rodder forums anymore, so I have decided to drop rodder forums from my life.... So it's on to the house renovation where real money can just evaporate in short order..Right now I am building a deck on my front sunroom..Will be using pressure treated stringers and posts..Cedar decking..I don't want to do this again ,I am 70 so if I can get 15 to 20 years out of it, I will be under the deck by then and I would like to keep that gorgeous cedar look as long as possible ..I just finished closing in my front veranda, insulating and installing all new windows and a new front terrace door that will exit onto the deck I am using cedar for the deck flooring and I want to highlight it and keep that nice cedar look ..I have built the exterior and interior of the sunroom in tongue and grove pine and finished it with sikkens cetal aunatural which is basically a clear stain..I do not want to put any clear or anything on it just the Sikkens I have done the the sunporch exterior when it was just a veranda and it never peeled, it looks great, has been on there for 15 to 20 years and still looks great..But I don't want to hurt the cedar,it costs more than a set of wide white walls for my street-rod..anybody with any experience or advice on keeping the cedar looking good..?? I do not like the old gray weathered look I like the new expensive cedar look ..and would like to preserve it if I can..PICT2224.JPGPICT2233.JPGPICT2238.JPGPICT2250.JPGPICT2256.JPGPICT2273.JPG

I will post a couple pics of the deck to-morrow I just got all or most of the material to-day.everything except the railings and steps..got the all the stringers, posts, hangers, concrete for the post holes, and all the cedar deck flooring $1500.00 probably take another "G" before I am done as I want to build a little cabana to house the Bar-B with a little cedar shake roof and run a few electrical outlets for some sound and lighting..I should have the stringers and some flooring on to-morrow more pics to follow..Hey did yah notice the wasp-nest I took out of the wall when we ripped all the walls off to insulate the old-veranda to convert it the new four-season sunroom,man-cave ,Chucks room..

Edited for some atrocious spelling..was in a hurry...my apoligies...chuk

Chuk, my oldest son has lots of cedar in and around his home, including the front porch posts, stair rails and a covered area out back by the pool.  Some of it is split and some of it is just peeled logs but ALL of them are sealed with something and I'll see if I can find out what his carpenter used.  He and his family are on their way to Sea World in San Antonio at the moment but I'll be talking to him in the next few days and I'll see if he knows what the feller used or how to find out.  Nice looking work and wood BTW.

Nice looking room Chuck.....I too have to do some staining before the snow flies....My deck is all pressure treated, so some cedar stain wll look good I think.

As for being tired of the car forums....I hear ya.....but, I kinda have to look in at them, gotta keep the riff raff out.........guess I am not doing a very good job...LOL

Yes it is great and to-day is one of them really great days to live here ..Sunny about 70 degrees, very light breeze..quiet and beautiful..

here is my porch last year till I decided it was time to close this up and turn it into a 4 season living space I will enjoy those winter storms more from a heated sun-room..

Some pics of the rest of the yard..I only have pics of cars but the property around is beyond the cars..

These are all at my home my shop is at home some of the cars I built but you can see the property in the back-ground..

it's a really nice piece of property in the country,I have 5 acres and I love it except the all the yard work and grass cutting is wearing me down..

more pics of the deck construction later to-day..

Well we made a cross border trip to Murica and got all the window coverings and rods hope to get that up this week-end, got the carpet for the inside gonna pick it up on Thursday and have it down by the week-end I hope..pretty much finished up the deck floor to-day..still have some trim work and a few screws to put in and by to-morrow we should have a good grip on the deck railing..Getting a serious chuk of change into this project..funny how fast this home reno stuff can right outa hand money wise..I chose to do it all in Cedar rather than pressure treated and I am not sorry just broke..........I think the railing ,spindles, and posts put a serious dent in my wallet..oh well I just took it out the kids inheritance..lol..a few more pics of where we is to-day..

Thanks guys.. I am happy with it..Now if the damn grass would just stop growning it takes all my time just cutting grass..The price of fuel these days it now takes me $60 to in fuel to cut the cut the grass once a week..5 acres I would like a couple weeks of that desert weather Rumbler..We are haveing night temps of 9 celius what ever that is in farenhight ..This damn metric system we have confuses the hell out of me all I know is it's great for sleeping but that morning trip to the john is cold on the tootsies and shorts are out till after lunch..I was noticing that fall mist over the fields and especially the creek across the field..We are leaving to take a trip to Alberta next week-end sure hope it warms up a bit at least we probably won't need to worry about using the A/C on the motor home makes it a lot easier for red-neck Wallmart camping if you don't need hydro..nice not to run the genny ..Then the next big project will be to replace the bath-roon when I get home.. Time to get rid of the bath tub and put in a new Senior type large shower with seats and grab-bars for safety as we step into our 70s..getting old sucks I am running out of energy, and money...Thanks for all the positive comments I am going to enjoy that deck on some summer evenings if they should show up I think it's to late for this year ....

9 Celsius - about 48 Farenheit. Yeah, that would freeze the tookus off of Ol' Geezer. Probably would me, too; our overnights are still around 80, a couple of nights ago it was still 97 out at midnight. 106 today.
