Remembering Patsy Cline

On this day in 1963, along with several other Country Music Stars, Patsy Cline died tragically in a plane crash. She left a music legacy that still live in Country and Pop Music. Here's a rare video of her singing a song that was written by the legendary Willie Nelson.

Born in the 50s,teen in the 60s and 70s but my love for music is back when I was born. I think Patsy Cline and Roy Orbison have my vote. Sorry no links....

It must be true that GMTA because not 5 minutes ago sitting in the recliner watching some Waltons rerun or somthing Orbison's "In Dreams" popped into my head.  I probably haven't thought of that song since his Black and White Night PBS show aired.  Now I can't get the #$@^%#@ thing out of my mind.

Although I was aware of the significance of yesterday, March 6th, and since Jim Bowie was my fourth great Uncle,  I still managed to forget to post this.  So here it is a day late.  To me it is as important piece of history as the Fourth of July !

Joey Feek of "Joey and Rory" is probably one of my favorite female voices these days and I head her cover this Dan Seals song the other night but it's not available on YouTube as of yet.  Here's the original artist and writer, however.

Another sigh. I never heard that but what it didn't leave me kind'a melancholy; love the music, one of the prettiest melodies I think I ever heard.

I've always prided myself on being able to like all genres of music as long as it was music and not Rapp Attitude with a beat. By remaining open to all types you will be blessed with stuff like this from a Movie with Bela Fleck called "Throw Down Your Heart". All I can say is that if this doesn't make you feel good and tap your toe (or jump around if you are inclined) then you need to check your pulse.

This year we have lost TWO COUNTRY Music Legends - Ray Price and George Jones and there's no doubt in my mind that they rolled over in their Graves last night during the A?C?M Award Show. Even tho I had vowed several years ago not to ever watch it again, I watched the last part last night to see them Honor "The Hag" Merle Haggard. George Strait did win entertainer of the year but I'm not sure that's was on the up and up, altho I sure hope it was. Anyhow, while waiting for Hag's tribute I was tortured with this "whatever you wanna call it" from some duo called Florida Georgia Line. Any one that thinks this crap even slightly resembles Country Music is in worse shape than I am. R.I.P. Ray and Possum !

You betcha, Em(I) that is another one of those songs like "The Breeze" that will have you going 60 in a 30 MPH zone. I have only played in one band that did that song and it always filled the dance floors with old hippies and bikers. Hmmmmm????????????

thanks

Pullin' Covers Again:

Several great artists have covered this song. Folks like Sam Moore, Conway Twitty, David Ruffin and even Bocephus but "no one" does it like the original Mr. Brooke Benton - - IMHO of course

I am becoming a real fan of this young man's music. He is a great Patriot and has been overseas 13+ times entertaining the Troops. Guess it's my age but for some reason the words in this song really hit home to me.

Had my Rocky Mtn days on my mind today and got to thinking about this kind of Music.

Written by the talented, late, great John Denver and recorded by the "beautiful", late great and talented, Mary Travers.

You might call this Mellowing with Mello

let's call this "the Memphis SUN" - - it's the late Danny Gatton honoring Scotty Moore and Delbert McClinton honoring Elvis. Together they are paying tribute to Sam Phillips and THe Sun Recording Studio where many got their start back in the Fifties. This is damned good guitar work boyz.

Ah yes, one of the greats; and his cousin, Jimmy Swaggart on the other side of the coin. Worked with a guy who was an evangelical of the Swaggart stripe, and he always had Jimmy's programs on the radio in his office. Many was the time I had a sobbing Jimmy bemoaning the fall of Jerry Lee for background entertainment when I was in the guys office doing something together. Somehow, I can't think of Jerry Lee without thinking of Jimmy.

Yep, I forgot about Mickey Gilley.  He fit the mold, though, when you study on the three of them some; they all have/had the same style and pretty much the same sound.  I don't normally think of Mickey G. in the mix, though, for some reason; instead, I tend to think of him when I think of "Bob Gully" - name similarity I am sure, and that's the only reason I can think of for it because their music is entirely different.

Barely.  I think it was '68 or thereabouts; I was in the second year of my three year apprenticeship, and we all wondered just what the lyrics meant.  I mean, yeah, you can hear a hum from the wind blowing across the wires, and snow storms are a real pain sometimes, and heat is always a concern, but the rest of it - ??????

Good music, none the less; I always like his work.

??? I had a deer stand once that was "almost" under a high tension line and I could certainly hear something humming - - - - was that current? - - - - 'cause there weren't no wind - - - could have bought a real cool country house once but passed it up because of the high tension line that ran across behind it - - - just me I guess.
