They just don't make them like they used to.

Sometime in the dark, this came to me, think it is sort of appropriate.

Your Indulgence Please:
Last Saturday my youngest son, Bo, and their Church Band was doing a benefit for a Firefighter that had lost a leg. When they finished playing and were loading up, the next band to play asked him if he would please play bass for them. I think their bass player had quit or something. At first Bo said no that he needed to go on home but they kept on and he agreed to sit in. Afterwards they wanted to hire him but he told them he didn't play Honky Tonks any more.

Anyhow someone got this video and DLd it on Youtube. The big thing playing the bass is Bo and the big thing on his left foot is his ankle boot from the severe sprain of several weeks ago.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=VWgqzWBasbA&feature=youtu.be

When he sent this to me, I asked him if that was the first time he had played that song and he replied "maybe the first one thousandth time !"  He's a good young man and damned good bass player and sound man.

Yes I'm a proud Papa,

Em

thanks Em(I) - - - nothing special just basic 4-4 Country Two-stepp'n music - - when Bo decided to learn to play Bass I told thim that I would not teach him

the reason was because I was self-taught and I played incorrectly, from a technique standpoint, and it was not the easiest way either - - - - - it never bothered my playing but I wanted him to learn from a good bass player so one of our friends, Berle Bullock, took him under his wing and taught him

one of the funniest things was that I always played with a guitar pick, which is not the best way (self taught yanno?), and when Berle saw a pick in Bo's hand the first time he told him if he ever saw him playing Bass with a pick again he would break his arm hahahahahaha Berle was a hellofa guy

This is just a sample.

What a voice - and the body it was in wasn't too bad, either.  I have a lot of her tapes; Canciones de Mi Padre is one of my favorite albums, not because I can understand much of the words, but just listening to the voice and the arrangements is completely mesmerizing to me.  I used to have several of her tapes laying in the seat next to me on long hauls to or from somewhere, and they just got swapped out over and over; I never got tired of them.

Seems I might have put a million miles under my wheels in my life, a great many of them accompanied by this man and his music and stories; I never tire of them and him.

A couple of my acquaintances have lost beloved furry friends in the past couple of days, and the subject of dog's loyalty came up, and this song.  Got me melancholy remembering the many friends who wore fur coats and had long handles that followed them around wherever they went.  There is some old saw about that, and it pretty much describes my attitude about a lot of folks:  "I like my dogs and cats more than I like most people."

yes indeed, Russ, they call him the "Story Teller" and that he is. Quickly if I may?

When this song first came out and hit the Jukeboxes, I was in the Rocky Mtns of Colorado working for a Planning and Surveying Co. during the day and playing in a band 5nights a week. I'll bet you that "Old Dogs and Children" was the most played song EVER on that Jukebox.

P.S. Have you heard the poem that Jimmy Stewart read about his dog on The Johnny Carson Show. If you love your furry friends get a hankie before listening. I think it's easy to find on Youtube.

Cheers,
Em(E)

Ah yes, those would do it - - - - grew up with them - - - BTW, we just subscribed to Starz Encore WEST - - - nothing but C'boys, C'girls and Injuns 24/7 - - - - what a great way to waste a day and get even further behind

Quickly, if I may add, that Ken Curtis (Festus Hagan) could have easily had the big band vocalist job that 'ol Blue Eyes got - - - "WE" are much better off that he didn't?

Late Fifties early Sixties "cool" at it's best; same piece, two renditions.  If that don't slow ya down a bit, nothin' will; just lay back and watch the clouds or stars drift on by.

Then, after that, you can wake up to some good ol' swingin' boogie woogie.

That's just good music - PERIOD - a good friend and musician buddy of mine told me once that not every "good" pie-annie player can "properly" play the Boogie Woogie and I think he was right. However, that 'ol boy has his Chops in order.

I've resisted posting on this thread because --- well, beats me.

My faves are '50s through '70s with a few later('80s) thrown in such as some of the later Eagles and a couple others like ON-J, John Denver, Captain and Tennille, or Kenny Rogers.

:-hijackedBut with that said, I have to comment on some of the dreadful Christmas music(?) that I heard yesterday while out wandering. Between stylizing the oldies but goodies, singing or playing them off key along with some really bad newer songs, there is something even worse> Ghettoizing. I get the blues part of it or even turning into a gospel song. I just don't get turning a great Christmas song or even a hymn into a rap or hip hop POS. Don't even get me going on the National Anthem as PERFORMED at sports events like a stage show, not sung with heart like it was meant to be done ..............disbelief

Sighhhhhh. My soap box just broke

I agree 100%, Sir, sometimes having a hearing loss is an advantage, especially in the stores where music is playing. However, I don't think that I have said Merry Christmas any time in my life as much as I have this year - - - - yes, it's because I enjoy spreading the "cheer" but it's also to irritate those that don't like to hear it - - - - if they say anything then they just get more of it until they STFU - - - so far I've had only one griper but she lost quickly when the other people in the store joined in with me - - - Meeeeeeeerrrrrrrrrryyyyyyyyyy Christmas Y'all

Anyone who loves music knows that many great Artists have recorded the Classic "Danny Boy". Folks like Tom Jones and the late great Ray Price, however, in my very humble opinion once the great Jackie Wilson recorded IT HAD BEEN SUNG. This is vocal control at its finest.
