Bo's Pole Barn

My youngest recently purchased 6 acres in the same town that he lives in and has decided to build a 60 x 40 foot pole barn so a couple of weeks ago I went over hand helped him lay it out and get the poles concreted in place.  Well it's summer time in Tejas and I made it until 1pm before the heat sent me home.  He and his son and a friend finished setting all but 2 and Bo finished them earlier this week.

He called yesterday and asked if I felt like coming over and helping him pop a level line so he could cut them off.  We got that done and started on the cut offs but I pooped out and started getting nauseous.  I had to bail around 10:30am this time.  The roof will be 15 feet tall so there was considerable ladder climbing to make getting the level makes properly made  so that's probably what got me.

He decided to only slant the pitch 6" over the 39' span and I think that will be ok.  He has a couple of fork lifts at his business and I think I convinced him to get the large one over there instead of using the ladder especially since he's gonna be putting up 2 x 8 rafters/roof nailers anyhow.  He ageed and I got my OLD BUTT to La Casa.

He's got a power pole and a water well on the site plus a goose neck camp trailer that I think he's gonna use for an office.  After he gets the pole barn finished and gets his wash area for cleaning the tote I think it's gonna be a nice facility for him.

Typos are a forgiven boo boo when you're calendar challenged.

Heck, I got heat exhaustion just thinking about summer in Texas. I struggle with the heat up here in Pennsylvania. Sounds like he is gonna have a nice size barn when it's done. With a 6" pitch over 39 feet, I'm guessing that you guys never see snow?

My fiberglass back porch roof was 4 in 12 or a little less before I reroofed it with metal and it's still 4 in 12. Makes for some interesting snow curls that eventually break off and again squash the sad looking shrubs 20 feet below.

Yep getting old really sucks,  I have a hard time crawling out of my recliner ,, much less climbing a damn pole,  what type of business is Bo in?   up here in god's country we don't get much snow, but do get quite a bit of the liquid stuff,,  which isn't much of a problem,, other than keeping the leaking roofs sealed,,

We also have a lot of that Illegal snow too,,

Amigo, he recycles what he calls "Totes" See attached Pic - - - he buys them, cleans them and resells them. The business is like any other it goes in cycles according to the industry, especially the Oil and Gas Industry.

You watch yourself with the heat, Em(E), that can be some worrisome. Since my ambulation has gotten so tricky, I haven't been out in the weather as much, and have made it a point to stay inside when it gets real hot. I had to go out right after I got my rolling walker, and shoved it in the back of the truck, and headed to my appointment. When I went to retrieve it, it burned my hands; so now I keep a pair of gloves handy.

That should be a pretty good business to be In,, those totes are used for shipping heavy bulky items right?

Yes, mostly liquid items and some "hazardous" which he his to be very careful of.

Speaking of Pole Barn - - he called yesterday and wants me to try and come over this morning so I'm up at 4am this morning and getting ready to head that way. Don't know how long I'll hold up but my son needs my help so we'll see how it goes.

Have a great weekend, Y'all,
meller

Update on Pole Barn:

Bo called last night and asked if I could come help him finish cutting off the posts since he now had his forklift there on site.  So I left before daylight and we managed to get the 9 remaining poles cut off plus almost all of the top plates nailed up.  Couldn't believe how some of the "abiiity?" started to come back to this old bod this morning and I was driving those 16 pennies off of the ladder with my drywall hatchet ?almost? like I used to.  I said Almost.

Muscle memory. It's amazing how the hammer - or any tool - still fits the hand even though I may only pick it up to use it once in a blue moon.

Indeed Em(I) it sure made me feel good when it came back even with the Liquid Gel Advil Night last night.   Heck, I even did it without the glasses on ?

I barked the ends off of two fingers peeling spuds last week. Does that count?

IMHO - - when you're calendar challenged, as most of us are, any time you lose hide, blood or food - - - IT COUNTS
