Misery

In the past few months we have had a busted pvc water line under the front of the house and a busted drain line at the back.  Come to find out the culprit was the house is settling so now I have to keep my fingers crossed until next Thursday before the recommended Company can start on it.

Needless to say, I am not sleeping or resting much these days.  Here are a few pics that show the conduits bending and the bottom board of the siding pushing out and cracking.  Also shown is the way the back of the house is lower than the deck causing a pocket at the tread plate.

We will eventually get it all taken care of but I don't wait very well these days so you might say I'm beating myself up until they show up.

One of the joys of living South of the M-D Line. nonono

Our daughter outside of Richmond had her house jacked up and new pilings installed for the same reason. In her case, the 'rock on the DR wall split and a couple floors sagged badly. If I recall, her homeowner's insurance paid for some of the costs

That has to suck.
My son-in-law's home had a shift in it and the sewer pipe under the basement slab shifted two inches to the side. Causing a back up of the lower floor toilet.

Some areas down on the coast where we used to live had problems with alluvial settling, and "(concrete) grout jacking" was the choice for solution. One job I worked on was a building that had settled and separated all of the service utilities going into the place; we had to remove all of our cabling, and reset the conduits after they had "jacked" the place, and pull in new cable - all of the utility companies did. Those PROS seem to have the techniques well in hand.
