Strange Weather

Here in the great southwestern desert, we have endured several weeks of almost non-stop wind - not just breezes, but full tilt wind, along with attendant allergy problems; then it calmed, and started warming up, hit 100 the other day, and today it is down to 60 and cloudy.  I know things have been strange in the rest of North America, too; what's strange in your neck of the woods??

It appears that summer has arriven. Last evenings newscast seven day weather was all 100s - 100 to 105 - and probably will continue so for the foreseeable future. To add insult to injury, the WIND is continuing as well. Summers like this can get somewhat old in a relative hurry; 1968, in Barstow, California, which is about 175 miles south and west of Las Vegas, was like that, and I sometimes thought perhaps hell was a place nearby. We carried twenty gallons of water for each man on the crew, and pretty well used it all up in a ten hour day; if we had to go back into "the yard" for any reason, we always topped our water "Igloo"s off with fresh ice and water. We also had a three hundred gallon tank of "hose water" on one of the support trucks that we used to aid in digging holes in dry sand, and we all would just take that hose and douse ourselves with it once in a while; with the wind like it was that year, it helped to keep us cooler than it would be without it.

So, how's everyone doing??

So, it's going to get warm, now!  Maybe hell is moving to Las Vegas.  Nah, it's been hotter in recent years, I think I posted a picture of the thermometer on our patio at 118 a few years ago, but that was in August, not quite this early in the season.
