A\C not cooling

Now that summer is almost here I turned on the A\C for the first time and got warm air. The technician said I had a leaky A coil. After putting in 2 pounds of Freon  He suggested installing a new heat pump. My first thought was that he was trying to rip me off. What do y`all think?

Did he check and repair any leaks?

Dont know a lot about heat pumps, but if AC systems are not leaking, they are generally pretty reliable. How old is the system?

Leaks can usually be repaired if the A-Coil or condenser is not too corroded, or too beat up; I would seek a second opinion if I were you.  That said, most repair outfits of any stripe tend to try to up-sell you these days, and depend on dealing with people who don't have any idea of the systems they are dealing with.  I have had repair folk in the past several years come for a service call and try to sell me something I don't need, and a few have just walked off when I showed some sense of knowing more than they thought I would.  Don't be sold a bill of goods.
