Nasty tree in our yard - or was, that is

I've been catching up on (way) past due yard work and decided that a tree in the garden that my wife thought was from a seedling off that ash tree in the front yard that got blasted by lightning 3 years ago. Unfortunately, it was not. I found out quite painfully and after looking on the net that it was a honey locust, better known as a thorny locust and not much more then a weed as far as I'm concerned. In my naive thinking, I grabbed on a branch, probably the 3rd or 4th that I trimmed off and found that it 'bites' the unaware. OK, I've been stuck by thorns way more times then I like and they hurt - as did this one. But this 'bite' kept on hurting for a couple hours. I wandered back to the net and found out that many folks have long lasting arthritis or worse pain, sometimes for months after being stuck. This seems to tell a story about those trees:  http://en.allexperts.com/q/Trees-739/2008/12/f/honey-locust-thorn-poison.htm  . I suspect some of those tales are BS, but there are just too many that sound to be true

That tree - well except for a stump, it's been relegated to the woods. I dug out a pair of heavy leather gloves and my little pruning saw and made it disappear. The stump will get yanked using my truck and a chain after my wife's garden is done and that to will 'go away' as well. I have to say that it was a nice looking little tree ...................confuseconfuseconfuseconfuse
