Is anybody out there??

Johhny's Math Problem

Nine year old Johnny (there's that Johnny kid again) is struggling with his math; the teacher is at her wits end, mom and dad aren't happy, he is getting failing grades in it. As a last resort, they enroll him at a Catholic school because they have a reputation for educational excellence. The first day of school, Johnny comes home from school and goes straight to his room, quietly closes the door and sets to work on his math; his mom checked up on him, and he is deep into his books. He only came out for his supper, and then went back to his math until bed time. This became his daily routine, and at the end of the first semester, he brings his report card home in a sealed envelope, unopened, and gives it to his mom, then heads to his room. Mom opens the report card and sees an A in the math line. At supper, his folks are so pleased, and ask him: what made the difference? was it the Nuns? No he said. Was it the strict discipline? No, he replied. Well, his dad asked, what made this amazing difference in your math grades? Johnny answered: well, when I walked in the front door the first day of school, I saw that guy nailed up on that plus sign, and I knew they were really serious about math.

Hi guys, It has been quite a while since I've popped in here. Life got busy AND complicated at the same time. My health took a dump, and I've had to retire on disability. Doc says I only have 40% use of my lungs. So a walk out to the truck to go shopping requires me to sit for 10 minutes in the truck to catch my breath before driving. My kidneys are acting up, but not too bad yet. And I have the marvelous pain of arthritis. This getting old crap ain't for the meek. Seems strange to wake up and not go to work. I worked at the same place for 31 years. I heard they hired 2 recent graduates to replace me, made me feel good to hear that it took 2 guys to do what I did.

Been working on my "bucket list". Took my wife to see the 50th anniversary tour of the Moody Blues (GREAT show!) Also went to see John Cafferty and the Beaver Brown Band, The Oak Ridge Boys, Diamond Rio, The Righteous Brothers, and some comedy from Carlos Mencia, and Rodney Carrington. I went to a firearms auction 2 hours north of home and got a revolver I've been looking for, for over 30 years. A Dan Wesson in .22LR with an extra barrel. I'm hoping to go to a gun auction this weekend to pick up a cheap "wall hanger" double barrel shotgun just because I want one to hang on a rack in the living room. I went to an Amish gun auction about a month ago. They must be a progressive group, because they use electricity to power lights and computers, and have on-line bidding. Sure was interesting. I ended up just buying lunch in their own cafeteria. One of the best hamburgers I've ever had and got home made apple pie for desert, too. Got my old Deere tractor fixed and running. That will be a plus this winter when moving snow.

So why am I suddenly hear you might be wondering? I gotta find something to occupy my time besides daytime TV. I'm sure I'm lowering my IQ every day I watch the crap that is on. Between Jerry Springer's inbred, 6 toed, mutant guests, and Maury Povitch proclaiming, "You are NOT the father!" and the gaggles of women sitting around tables clucking like old chickens about how bad everything is, I have decided that I'll try reacquainting myself with the forums I used to visit. Seems quiet here, but maybe I can poke around and create some interest.

Hi Joe, good to hear from you. Me and Merril were getting tired of each other posting back and forth...Seems we are the only ones left on here.....lol . The rest of the old farts seem to have disappeared, hope they are OK.glad you are.
Yeah, we are all getting older. I have the arthritis thing going on too, my breathing is good though.....for now.
As for working, I am down to a few days a week now. I like that, a bit of extra dough when I need it. The wife just broke her bottom plate (denture), so thats going to be a few grand.....always something. Her van also packed it in recently, so we bought a 2015 Chevy Cruze....great little car. Luckily, I had some money saved, so its paid for.
Winter coming, so raking leaves and getting stuff ready for snow. Get our share in this area.

Keep in touch guys.

Nice car for your Mrs. I am sure it gets better gas mileage than the van you mentioned. My wife's car is slowly dying. It is currently using a gallon of anti-freeze a week, it's leaking into one of the cylinders making the engine a V5. She has a 2001 Chevy Malibu with just over 100,000 miles on it and because of its age, it's not worth fixing. I've poured a lot of money in that car over the past 5 years in the belief that each repair would be the last needed, but crap just keeps breaking on it. So now the plan is to nurse it along another 18 months until my truck is paid off and then get her a Subaru Forester. Nice Ford Tractor you have there! You in a place that gets some serious snow?

I have my truck, its a 97. I wouldnt give it up, even though it uses 3x the gas as the Cruze. Our van was a 2005, but was getting pretty long in the tooth, one thing after another. Rusting a bit.....It had a ton of options, the electric stuff was going one thing at a time (cruise control, self levelling stuff etc)...The wife had a fender bender, not her fault and the insurance company wrote it off.....Too many panels to fix......was a blessing in disguise really....lol
